TikTok to Terminate TikTok Now
TikTok will discontinue TikTok Now in a forthcoming update, according to reports from users on the app.
TikTok Now was introduced earlier this year by TikTok owner ByteDance in an effort to compete with the budding social media app BeReal. However, BeReal itself has seen a decrease in recent popularity: WERSM reports that its active daily users dropped 61% between October 2022 and March 2023. BeReal currently ranks No. 13 in social media on the AppStore.
The Latest on Threads: Meta Shares Dictionary, Good Brand Engagement Reported
Most social media users are familiar by now with Meta’s new Threads app, the social giant’s answer to Twitter. But they might not know what to call everything that’s being done on Threads.
Recognizing this, Meta recently shared a “Threads Dictionary” on Threads’ own Instagram account. “Quilting, sewing, stitching—how do you talk about Threads?” reads the caption on the post.
A quick breakdown for those who are wondering: A discussion on the Threads app is called a thread. An individual piece of text or media is referred to as a post—and as a verb, one can post a thread. Responding to someone else’s thread would be a reply; sharing someone else’s thread, a repost.
These terms sound like those used on most other social platforms. Just another way for the app to hype its users? For sure. But some might find it useful information nonetheless.
On the brand front, WebsitePlanet reports good engagement in the limited time that Threads has existed. A majority of brands that are active on both Threads and Twitter are seeing more likes per post on Threads than on Twitter, according to WebsitePlanet‘s study. While there are too many other elements to call this data decisive, a positive note on engagement should serve to encourage more brands to jump on Threads—often it pays to be an early adopter.
TikTok Testing New Shop Feed
As TikTok looks for more ways to incorporate shopping into the app experience, some users are seeing a new “Shop” tab alongside the usual “Following” and “For You” feeds, according to Social Media Today. Clicking on “Shop” will take users directly to the TikTok Shop display, where they can find items for purchase.
Shopping via social media has been popular in Asia but not yet fully embraced by Western consumers, so U.S. users might expect further testing like this in the future. No word from TikTok on whether the Shop option will be made permanent or released to a larger audience anytime soon.
