Vladimir Malakhov, editor-in-chief of Rough & Polished, the Russian diamond industry online publication, died of cancer on July 17. He was 76.

Since his passing, the site—which is available in Russian, English, Chinese, and Portuguese and is known for both its news snippets and in-depth analysis and interviews—has moved here.

The publication called Malakhov a “talented leader, translator, and editor.”

Alex Popov, founder and CEO of the World Diamond Museum and former president of the Moscow Diamond Bourse, said in a statement that he “had a special relationship with Vladimir, and he was one of my close confidants in Moscow. His premature death will leave a huge void. The global diamond industry will miss his quiet attention and great analytic skills.”

The statement also referred to Malakhov as “a kind and easygoing man who enjoyed working closely with about two dozen employees and correspondents worldwide, maintaining close contact with the industry’s ‘who’s who.’”

At press time, no information on survivors was available.
